The Reality of Peaceful Assemblies in Bahrain

during the Fourth Quarter of 2025 (October - December 2025)

The right to engage in peaceful assembly is guaranteed under the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the international instruments that Bahrain has ratified, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Nevertheless, this right continues to be subjected to institutional and systematic violations and abuses, such as freedom of expression and other fundamental rights. Despite the high cost paid by Bahraini citizens over more than three decades, they continue to exercise this right, with 2025 witnessing a noticeable increase in the number of peaceful assemblies.

However, the Government of Bahrain (GoB) continues to adopt historically harsh security practices, accompanied by strict restrictions that limit these assemblies. In 2025, this resulted in an escalation in human rights violations. The number of arrests for protesting increased, with repression extending to children. This includes summonses, arrests, ill-treatment, and prosecution.
