Three human rights organizations welcome the statement of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on death sentences in Bahrain

Three Bahraini human rights organizations welcomed the statement issued on 14 July 2020 by the High Commissioner for Human Rights on arbitrary death sentences against torture victims Muhammad Ramadan and Hussein Moosa.

In February 12 2020, the independent experts called on the government of Bahrain to remember its obligations to prevent all forms of torture and ill-treatment, urged the authorities to immediately stop any plans to implement the death sentences against the two men, and to completely abolish death sentences against them and ensure that they are tried in accordance with the law and international standards.

The three human rights organizations called on the member states of the Human Rights Council to adopt the High Commissioner’s demand to urge the Bahraini authorities to immediately stop any decision to execute them, to cancel the conviction of their sentences, and to ensure that they are tried again in accordance with international human rights norms and standards.
